MOULD

So you suspect you have a mould problem. Mould investigations are done in 3 steps:

1. Inspection

Musty odour, plumbing or water leaks? Flooding? Ice Damming? Health issues and allergies?

Identify the problem areas affecting your building. Identify the problem and find the cause:

First, CIS will pinpoint the problem areas in your building. Where is the mould growth? A crawlspace, the attic, or hidden in a bathroom wall or basement? All of these are common locations for mould growth. Throughout the mould inspection sophisticated sensory equipment is used to locate probable areas of growth.

Second, CIS determines the cause of the mould growth. Mould requires water to grow, therefore we look for a source of excessive moisture. Common sources include:

  • Plumbing leaks
  • High humidity
  • Roof leaks
  • Water backups
  • Seepage

Third, we outline our recommendations. We provide expert advice and consultation specifically tailored to your unique situation.

2. Test

Mould, allergens, Volatile Organic Compounds, bacteria, and other potentially harmful airborne pollutants commonly lurk in our indoor environments. What is in your air?

Many of these cannot be detected by a visual inspection alone. Fortunately we have the technology to measure the type and quantity of common pollutants including:

  • Mould testing
  • Bacteria testing
  • Allergy screening
  • Particle count testing
  • Carbon Monoxide and carbon dioxide
  • Temperature and humidity

These measurements are then used to correctly map out your indoor environmental conditions. Once we finish formulating a reason to your indoor air quality concerns, it is time to test it. Our sampling may involve mould sampling, bacteria sampling, particle counts, and allergen screening. This allows us to determine specific types and levels of contaminants that may be affecting your indoor environment.

3. Cleaning it up Properly!

You’ve found the problem, now what? Remediation (cleanup and removal) of contaminated materials must be done right.

Anyone can try to remove mould, but it takes a mould remediation professional to do it right the first time. If mould remediation is done improperly, it can easily do more harm than good. Our consultants will develop a mould remediation plan specific for your needs, ensuring your problem is remedied quickly and effectively. All of our consultants are certified in mould remediation and receive extensive ongoing education and training.

Canadian INvironmental Services leads the industry with our guided and implemented 8 step mould remediation process.

  • Preparation of the site
  • Containing the area of concern
  • Achieving negative air pressure
  • Remove water and mould damaged materials
  • HEPA vacuum and clean-up
  • Apply anti-microbial treatment
  • Conduct clearance testing (Post Remediation Verification)
  • Remove containment
